Turkish American Medical Association Celebrates 14 March Tıp Bayramı at Türkevi in New York

New York, NY, March 22, 2026—The Turkish American Medical Association (TAMA) hosted a special reception at the Türkevi Center in New York to celebrate 14 March Tıp Bayramı, bringing together Turkish physicians, dentists, nurses, and healthcare professionals from across the United States.

The event welcomed distinguished guests, including Süleyman Eralp Bellibaş, President of TAMA; Muhittin Ahmet Yazal, Consul General of Turkey in New York; TRNC Representative Murat Soysal and his wife; and Zeynep Yazal, spouse of the Consul General. Members of the Turkish-American health community, diplomats, and civil society representatives were also in attendance.
President Bellibaş Highlights Historical Significance

In his opening remarks, President Süleyman Eralp Bellibaş emphasized that medicine is not only a profession but a calling rooted in service to humanity. He underscored the deep historical meaning of 14 March, noting:
- The launch of modern medical education in March 14, 1827, and
- The critical role of medical students in the 1919 resistance against occupying forces, marking 14 March as a symbol of both medical pride and national struggle.
Consul General Yazal Praises Healthcare Professionals and TAMA’s Progress

Consul General Ahmet Yazal highlighted the indispensable role of healthcare professionals in society — a truth felt profoundly during the COVID‑19 pandemic. He expressed his appreciation for TAMA’s significant progress in recent years and extended his gratitude to President Bellibaş and all contributors who helped organize the event.



The evening fostered a strong sense of unity among Turkish-American healthcare professionals. The program concluded with a warm social gathering and a group photo session, reflecting the community’s shared commitment to advancing health, service, and professional collaboration.
